世界鍼灸学会 - またも文句を言わざるを得ない・・・

ご存知の方も多いと思いますが、全世界の鍼灸学会 (WFAS 2016) は11月つくばで開催されます。「全世界」のものであるため開設された website は全部英語で書かれています。 さて、そこに問題あります。 恐らくこの英文は日本語の原稿を基にしてそれなり professional translation agency に依頼され、professional translator に作成させたと想定します(そう信じたい)。 残念ながらこの英文に「和製英語」の濃厚な気配が漂っています。 世界学会を開催するならば、出来れば世界のどこで誰を見ても恥ずかしくない文章を作る事は望ましいのではないでしょうか。 以下に2-3点を指摘してみたいです。   1.Technical Session … Details will be informed soon. → 和製英語で意味が通じません。 2.Head of Vice President → “Vice President” は非常に限局的(アメリカ)、そして分野=ビジネスであれば「何人のグループに使われますが、「普通」ならば一人の人物を指しています。妙な印象を和らげるの最低限は “Presidents” (複数形)にすべきでしょう。 3.If you are a member of JSAM, … Continue reading
